Volunteers
Mohammed and Andrew were invited to the Houses of Parliament where they were recognised nationally and awarded the national Newcomer and Young Volunteer of the Year – it is great to have our volunteers receive two of the six national awards and receive the praise and recognition they so richly deserve.
Swimmers
We welcome Mark, Zac L (from the Isle of Wight), Kate, Vivian and Henry as our new swimmers. James Q and Hope are no longer with us due to other family commitments. Additionally, sadly Chloe is unable to continue swimming due to health issues concerning her ears.
James C, Mark, Kathryn and Patrick competed in Southampton gaining yet more PB’s (personal bests) and Mark, James and Kathryn also competed at Teddington returning with 3 golds and a bronze as well as ribbons for 4th, 5th and 6th places. 10th August 2008 LONDON TRIATHLON - Iain running for Electric Eels - click for more information: SPONSOR HIM please!
.jpg) Please sponsor Iain Pike in his attempt to raise money for OUR club.
He is running the London TRIATHLON on 10th August for us. An example of our expenses is that 4 of our volunteers are going on a L1 swim teacher training course this summer at a cost of ?370 per volunteer!! We have borrowed some of the money for this to enable volunteers to help the swimmers more effectively. More volunteers will train later in the year! This is just one of our ongoing costs for which your committee have fundraised over the last 6 months.
PLEASE get friends and family to sponsor him - they can give money to parents or to our TREASURER. Cheques made out to Electric Eels. We will let you know how much we raise. A BIG, BIG thank you to Iain and to Veronique (volunteer) who persuaded him to do it for us!
6th September 2008 First session back
20th September 2008 First gala for swimmers in Reading
27th September 2008 No swimming ? pool not available!
We hope that you have enjoyed your first sessions with Electric Eels. Please keep us informed if you are not able to attend a session as it will affect allocation of volunteers. Please fill in any pre-known absences or phone Jan 07917451706 by the previous Wednesday if it is short notice. We will try to keep each child placed with the same volunteers each week but this inevitably depends on people?s commitments. Please be understanding about this as not one of our volunteers is paid!
THANK YOU to all of those volunteers attending Special Olympics training day on 26th July 2008 in Oxford and giving up a week of their holidays to gain L1 swim teaching certificates to help swimmers at Electric Eels.
